Tere
I have planned to travel from Tallin to Valga via Tartu by train on the 1st of January 2010. My final destination is Riga and I'll have to change from the Edelaraudtee train to the LDZ train at Valga, so no chance making radio contacts at that time there. Instead I would have some time before that to spend in Tallinn area and nearby for e.g. PMR-446 and most certainly I have the PMR-446 and 27 MHz CB radios (unmodified units of Intek MT-5050 and Intek H-520plus) with me on the new year's eve while I'm expecting some celebrations and fireworks to be held in downtown Tallinn.
My questions at this point are, whether there are any special PMR-446 activity in Estonia on new year's eve. In the former province of Central Finland in the mid-1980's we monitored new year's eve fireworks and QSOed on CB-radio. But that was back then, nowadays everyone has his or her own cell phone. My other (more burning) question is, does anyone in this forum know where our Latvian friends discuss (preferably in English or German) on web and do they monitor ch8.00 or do they have some active simplex repeater units in Riga area? I assume I stay only one night in Latvia (as I would like to visit Valga too) but I hope I could have at least one QSO in Riga. I hope the PMR-446 activity there is as wide spread as in Estonia. Hopefully some Latvian PMR-446 activists read this Estonian forum too.
Unfortunately I didn't manage to persuade anyone else taking this trip to Riga (despite the idea going to Riga was not mine at all and despite I proposed the trip for three different interest groups), so I probably can adjust the time table more freely after I leave Riga.
